At 4.30pm on March 5th 1936 the Spitfire took of on its maiden flight from Eastleigh, in the same year IWC presented its first Special Pilots Watch, an extremely rugged and antimagnetic timepiece, in celebration of the 70th Anniversary of both plane and watch IWC have created this special edition of their Spitfire Chronograph Automatic, strictly limited to 70 watches.
On March 5th 2006 exactly 70 years to the day to commemorate that first flight, John Romain and Alex Henshaw, MBE flew all 70 of the limited edition watches together in the ammunition ports of Spitfire Tr.9 IAC161/G-CCCA from Southampton Airport.
