Jaeger-Le-Coultre Chronology

1833 Antoine LeCoultre opens a workshop at Le Sentier. As a man of great innovations, he designs machines to make components. The first machine-cut pinions are of his inventions

1847 LeCoultre & Co. invents a lever based winding system that replaces the traditional key.

1903 Antoine LeCoultre’s grandson Jacques-David pairs with Parisian chronometer maker Edmond Jaeger, forming Jaeger- LeCoultre. The company develops the world’s slimmest pocket watch calibre.

1928 The Atmos clock  is invented by engineer Jean Lon Reutter. It draws its energy from temperature variations and is billed as ‘the clock that lives on air’.

1929 The Calibre 101 is created. The smallest mechanical movement in the world, it consists of 98 elements and weighs just under 0.9grams.

1931 Created for Polo playing British officials the Reverso features a swivel case and offers an excellent solution to the frequent breakage of watch crystals.

1956 Memovox is the first automatic wrist watch equipped with an alarm device.

1958 Jaeger Le Coultre Geophysic features a chronometer antimagnetic at 600 amp/meter. This proves valuable to the exploration crew aboard the Nautilus.

1992 The Master Control 1000 Hours by Jaeger LeCoultre establishes a new bench mark for quality within the watch making world.

1994 The Reverso Duo watch features two time zones.

1998 Jaeger LeCoultre makes its foray into the world of luxury sport with the Reverso Gran Sport, the fruit of seven years of intense research and development.

2002 This year marks the 70^th anniversary of the Reverso. The house unveils the first platinum Reverso with  a skeleton movement and also expands its high jewelled collection.

2003 Launching of the Grande Reverso line, the most generously over sized Reverso line with an 8 day power reserve movement and the Master Antoine Le Coultre, honoured by the  Grande prix of Genve with its special Jury Prize.
