Rolex GMT-Master II
The Rolex GMT Master II is aesthetically very similar to the original Rolex GMT Master, offering the additional capability of being adjustable to local time without stopping the second hand. Released in 1983, the GMT Master II was developed in collaboration with Pan American World Airways as a professional pilots’ watch. The GMT Master is known as the first watch capable of showing the time in two different time zones simultaneously.
The GMT II’s iconic design has seen it adopted by globetrotters, and a host of Rolex admirers all over the world. Representing intercontinental travel, the watch has been dubbed by Rolex as ‘the cosmopolitan watch.’ Whether in Oystersteel, Oystersteel and gold, white gold, yellow gold, or Everose gold, the GMT II is an unmistakable symbol of style and worldliness.
The Oyster Perpetual GMT Master II with a blue and black bezel was introduced in 2013. This was shortly followed by a GMT Master II with a red and blue bezel. Having the two colours on a single ceramic piece was the first time in the world this had been achieved.
Available with either a 5-piece Jubilee bracelet, or a 3-piece Oyster bracelet, the case measures 40mm in diameter. The pronounced lugs contribute to the watch’s substantial and satisfying feel on the wrist. The date is displayed at 3 o’clock, beneath a distinctive Cyclops magnifying lens.
