Glashütte, a picturesque town in Saxony, Germany, is synonymous with fine watchmaking. Its horological heritage began in 1845 when Ferdinand Adolph Lange established a watchmaking industry in the region. Supported by Saxony’s government, Lange trained skilled artisans, laying the foundation for a thriving industry. Over time, brands like Moritz Grossmann, Julius Assmann, and A. Lange & Söhne flourished, making Glashütte a hub for precision engineering.
World War II and East Germany’s communist era disrupted its growth, with watch companies merging into the state-owned GUB (Glashütter Uhrenbetrieb). After reunification in 1990, independent brands like A. Lange & Söhne, Nomos Glashütte, and Glashütte Original revived the town’s legacy, blending tradition with modern innovation. Known for intricate craftsmanship, signature features like three-quarter plates and hand-engraved components, Glashütte remains a global icon of German watchmaking excellence.
