Created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Celtic’s European cup win in 1967, just 50 pieces of this super desirable watch exist. The watch was sold exclusively by watches of Switzerland, whose Chief Executive at the time, Brian Duffy, was a big Celtic fan and former board member.
Celtic’s triumph in Lisbon in 1967 was the first by a British club in Europe’s premier club football competition, earning the team the nickname the ‘Lisbon Lions’. Celtic’s style of ‘pure football’ was perceived as a victory for attacking flair, over the much more defensive style of the Inter Milan team. Incredibly 14 of Celtic’s 15-man squad for the game were born within 10 miles of Celtic Park.
The now discontinued 116610LV, or ‘Hulk’, has always been a firm favourite with Rolex aficionados and the limited number, and Celtic connection, make this watch incredibly desirable and a likely future favourite amongst watch lovers and sports lovers alike.
